txt-poll runs short community polls about Newport Beach by text message. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics on the poll pages. Our web server keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security.

Your link is tied to your number

Every text contains a link that is unique to the number it was sent to. Answers given through that link are stored together with that number, so poll results can be broken down (for example by neighborhood) and so one person can't answer many times. The link code is random and is not made from your phone number. Please don't forward your link: anyone who opens it can answer as you.

How we use it

No selling or sharing of numbers

We do not sell, rent or trade phone numbers or answers. We do not share your number with anyone for their own marketing. Mobile opt-in data and consent are not shared with third parties. Poll results may be published or shared as totals that do not identify you. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

To deliver texts we use a messaging provider, which handles your number only to send the message on our behalf.

How long we keep it

[RETENTION PERIOD: Mike to fill in (how long answers and numbers are kept)]

Opt-out records are kept for as long as we send texts, so we keep honoring them.

How to opt out

After you opt out we will not text that number again. Reply HELP to any text for help. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies, usually a few texts per poll.

Not affiliated with the City

txt-poll is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the City of Newport Beach or any government agency.
